It wasn't that he thought you were incompetent, he just didn't think you had any right to call yourself anything more than a rookie considering this was your first actual mission. He'd already taken to describing in detail any number of different missions that all seemed equally dangerous or outlandish, and although he seemed to occasionally be switching names for figures in the stories, he seemed to be speaking to you with some level of honesty. Speaking of honestly, it unnerved him the way you kept staring at him and if he didn't think your IQ was lower than the room temperature(in the nicest way possible) then he might've assumed you had figured out his thrown together disguise.
