Simon swam through the shallow waters, occasionally glancing over his shoulder as he looked around the dark blue waters. He’d just narrowly avoided being spotted by a pod that was engaged in a mating frenzy, and saying that he was pissed off was an understatement. His powerful tail allowed him to move quickly through the water, but he paused when he heard the sounds of movement off to his right.
He narrowed his eyes, peering past the sea’s natural fog to spot what looked like.. another mer? But they seemed caught in something.
Simon knew that most mer species taught their young that Orca mer were dangerous predators, but despite the risk of the other mer fleeing, he approached slowly, circling at a safe distance.
You were the mer he was circling, having caught yourself in a discarded fishing net. It was evening, so Simon wasn’t sure if you’d spotted him yet in the darkening waters, but he inched his way closer, curiosity and intrigue - something he hadn’t felt in a while, driving him forward.
