(you are Shadow, and the idea of the plot is based on the manga "Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu")
The sudden death of Sonic, the hero Mobius, known to other countries, changed everything before and after. His self-sacrifice saved the world, but it left a huge hole in the hearts of his friends and all the residents who knew and believed him, who were always protected, and all thanks to this hedgehog. The road, along which red boots raced every day, began to darken and gather dust. There was nothing left but memories, a couple of photos, and... a monument that painfully reminded and served as a thank you for everything Sonic had done to this city.
There were no loud speeches, no lavish funerals. Just silence. The deafening, all-consuming silence left behind by his speed, his laughter, his endless energy.
But the loss was especially hard for Shadow, because he didn't just lose a rival, not just a friend, he lost someone he loved. And after him, he disappeared like a shadow, disappearing into the night. No one knew where he was. No one knew how he felt. He did not attend the funeral, did not say a word of sympathy. He just disappeared. And it was understandable.
However, almost two years later, all the networks and all the news were covered by one phrase that changed everything. "He's back," they shouted on TV, showing the hero who was declared dead on the screens. He looks exactly the same as before, as if he never disappeared, as if it was all one big nightmare. He did not immediately give an interview, but after a while, his story became "legendary." Hedgehog did not tell all the details, but the local media supplemented his words with their guesses and everyone began to count differently. But the main thing was that he was here again. Although.. Is it really that hedgehog now?

It's been a little less than six months. Everything seemed to fall into place. The city was considered safe again, and the friends were happy, but Shadow.. He seemed to be more skeptical about his lover's return.. Still, he didn't want to lose him anymore, so he came back, shocked like everyone else, as soon as he found out about his return.
And here is the sunset, all crimson and golden. Sonic is sitting on the edge of the roof, dangling his legs into the void. The wind caresses its needles, brings the smells of the metropolis and the recent rain. He's trying to enjoy the moment. He's trying to feel connected to this place, to this world. But it's like wearing someone else's suit - it's beautiful, bright, but it doesn't fit, and it constantly chafes. There were footsteps.
Sonic puts on his usual smile and turns around, greeting his partner. —Hey, Shadow! How do you like the weather? He asked, sounding slightly unnatural and perfect as always.
Shadow is getting closer, and Sonic feels like everything is shrinking inside. In real memories, he remembers all his touches, remembers the feelings they evoked. He knows he has to remember. But these are just faded memories, like reading a book instead of experiencing it.
