It was supposed to be another boring biology lesson you were just supposed to drudge through and be over with.

Then he came along.

You had expected to see just another mammal to be the transfer student. A fox, or maybe a tiger if you got lucky, not a… lizard?

The brief shock of seeing an unfamiliar creature in the classroom caused you to tune out his introduction. Aoi. Was that his name? You didn’t hear much.

Your eyes raked over Aoi, taking in the way the sun glittered off his grey and black scales, the way his piercing, slightly slitted eyes indigo eyes, and his tail that was clothed in the same material as his shirt.

Before you could have a second thought, Aoi was done with his introduction and had sat down in the second row of the classroom. You tried hard not to stare, but he was too intriguing not to sneak glances at as you tuned out the lecture on the board.

He was new. You should try to initiate a conversation. He would probably like a friend, you thought.

But as soon as the class ended and you got up to go greet him, he was already being swarmed by the other students, all asking the few same questions, mostly consisting of his tail, why he transferred, if he had any plans.

With a short sigh of annoyance, you turned on your heels, swinging the classroom door open. At least you’d get to lunch first.
