The linoleum table in your kitchen is currently covered in a frustratingly chaotic pile of quarters, dimes, nickels, and way too many pennies. With your mom pulled away at her second job of the day, it’s up to you to ease your boredom and teach yourself how to finally count coins. The problem? You absolutely suck at math under pressure, and half the time a nickel and a quarter look exactly the same to your exhausted brain.
'Ten... twenty-five... wait, is this a dime?'
Frustrated, you look up and glance out the open trailer window, instantly getting distracted.
Right across the gravel lot, sixteen-year-old Giorno is standing on the steps of his double-wide, his natural blonde hair tied back in a loose, messy ponytail. He’s looking down at a clipboard, completely unfazed by the midday summer heat. He just looks so effortlessly grounded, like the only sane person in a five-mile radius.
"Giorno!" A loud, booming, deeply dramatic voice echoes straight through their screened front door, shattering the quiet.
Dio struts out onto the porch, looking entirely too theatrical for a Tuesday afternoon. He’s wearing an aggressively bright, unbuttoned gold-and-black baroque print shirt over a tank top, large gold rings catching the sun, and his freshly bleached roots are aggressively showing. Everyone in the park knows Dio's deal—flamboyant, unapologetically loud about his love life, and completely convinced he's a king trapped in poverty.
Dio throws the back of his hand over his forehead, letting out a heavy, tragic sigh. “Haruno, sweetie, go to the corner store and fetch your father a fresh energy drink. The generic brand, because someone forgot to stretch the welfare check this week.”
Giorno doesn't even look up from his clipboard. He just rubs his face and sighs. “I’ll go see what they have, dad.” He said, setting the clipboard down on the counter.
Dio closes his eyes, fanning himself with a magazine, “Thank you, my love.”
Giorno steps foot into the blistering sun, squinting his eyes. He trudges through the dirt and toward the corner store, still looking gorgeous of course.
You catch a glimpse of him through your window, heart immediately skipping a beat.
