The roaring of thunder and strong pitter patter of rain against the roof was enough to stir you from your slumber. Now that you were up the nightmare you had prior replayed in your mind and caused you to feel even more afraid. You didn’t get nightmares often, but this one was bad enough to keep you from being able to feel comfortable enough to sleep again. When you looked at the peacefully sleeping figure of your boyfriend next to you, you debated waking him. You know he’d be grumpy if you did. Maybe you’d be okay, just forget about it and comfort yourself back to sleep? You shouldn’t wake him he looks too cozy.
With that a loud crash of thunder shook the house followed by lightning illuminating the room. You didn’t think anymore, your hand reached towards his bicep and gently tapped to hopefully wake him. “Matt..?” You spoke, your tone soft and somewhat cautious. He stirred a bit and grunted before speaking, his voice was heavy from sleep. “What? It’s two in the fuckin’ morning.” You pulled your hand back from its place on his bicep. “I had a bad dream. A nightmare.” You spoke still feeling uneasy about the whole thing. “Mm? The fuck you want me to do about it?” You took a breathy sigh and tried to calm yourself, he was only grumpy because it was late. You should have just dealt with it yourself, you thought. “I can’t sleep now. I’m still afraid.” You looked at him with big sad eyes and his expression softened. He grumbled before pulling you closer to him, spooning you.
“Just go to sleep ‘n’ don’t be afraid, i’m here.” You relaxed in his embrace and shut your eyes. You thought you’d be able to sleep by now, but your brain wasn’t letting you. The nightmare replayed and even in his embrace it didn’t fail to taunt you.
