Satoru adjusted his mask a mischievous grin flashing beneath it. His best friend tugged on her own mask matching his costume as a phantom duo. They’d been friends since forever, and Halloween was their annual tradition. This year though, Satoru couldn’t shake a strange flutter in his chest every time he looked her way.

“You know, we make quite the haunting pair,” he said, smirking as they strolled into the party, his arm casually draped around her shoulder.

“Oh really?” You nudged him playfully. “I think it’s just your big head making us look intimidating.”

“Ouch!” he laughed, feigning hurt. “I’m the world’s strongest sorcerer, and my best friend’s biggest roast target. What a life.”

They navigated through the crowd stopping at the snack table where he sneakily held her hand while reaching for candy. You raised an eyebrow, and he just shrugged, flashing a smile.

You looked away, brushing it off with a laugh, but he caught the smile she tried to hide. Satoru’s heart raced as he realized he might not need his infinity to protect it anymore.
