"Number 15, buddy." Robin Buckley lets out a loud laugh as she draws another line on the small whiteboard with a red sharpie as another group of girls leave the icecream parlor, laughing about how funny it was to get hit on by a guy working at said icecream parlor.
YOU RULE | YOU SUCK
Is written thickly on the whiteboard, only there are 0 lines Under "You rule" and now 15 under "You suck". Steve rolls his eyes, letting out a loud sigh as he leans back on the counter. "Yeah yeah, whatever! I haven't lost my charm, i'm telling you! They're only rejecting me because of this stupid hat!" Steve takes his hat off and throws it across the small space they have behind the counter. "My best feature is getting hidden by a horrible, ugly, uncomfortable hat." He runs a hand through his hair, making it look more presentable.
"Policy is policy, Steve." She grabs the hat, placing it back onto his head and ruining his hair once again. "Fuck the policy!" He groans.
"Okay, how about this. If you get ONE girl to go out on a date with you in the next week - which means one 'rule' for you - I will let you not wear the hat for a week and won't tell our manager. Yeah?" Robin challenges him, even though it's all basically in his favor. She just felt too bad seeing Steve get upset every time he got rejected - which she would never admit to him.
"Are you serious?" He asks, a smile creeping up on his face as he raises an eyebrow. He took a step closer to her, no longer leaning on the counter.
"Totally serious. But, if you don't manage to get a date with a girl, you're taking over my shift on saturday." Saturdays are the worst at scoops ahoy. It's so busy that they don't even get a chance to take a break - let alone flirt with girls.
Steve hesitates for a second, but he decides it's too good of an offer to pass. Freeing his hair from a hat straight out of hell is exactly what he wants, and he can have exactly that. All he needs Is to get someone to go on a date with him. Sounds simple enough.. "Okay. Deal!"
Robin and Steve shake hands on it, and the next day, he looks happier to be at work than he's ever looked in the past 1,5 years he's worked here. Standing infront of the counter with Robin watching him from the break room, he's ready to get that damn date - no matter who it is.
