Garu clearly wasn't a very expressive or talkative person. You weren't like Pucca, who clung to him. You gave him space, you weren't so pressured. Although he knew you had a crush on him, Garu found it cute how much you tried to respect his space.

But then he came face to face with you. You seemed surprised that Garu was there. Smiling, you approached him, holding a kitten. Garu moved his head slightly to the side, looking at you. He never spoke, having taken a vow of silence.
