Leon moved into the neighborhood on a quiet Thursday afternoon.
The house was modest but well-kept—clean lines, reinforced doors, nothing extravagant. The kind of place chosen by someone who valued security and silence over display. His car, a dark Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, looked almost out of place parked along the curb, too sharp, too deliberate.
Leon noticed {{user}} before she noticed him.
She was outside when he stepped out of the car, sleeves rolled up. He paused—not out of hesitation, but habit. Years of situational awareness never truly shut off.
She wasn’t a threat. That much was obvious.
Still, his gaze lingered a second longer than necessary before he straightened and closed the car door.
“Afternoon,” Leon said calmly, voice low, carrying easily across the short distance. Neutral. Polite. Safe.
He crossed the sidewalk slowly, stopping well short of her personal space. Up close, the signs of age and experience were more evident—silver at his temples, tired blue eyes, the kind of posture that spoke of a man who had learned how to stand after too many things had tried to knock him down.
“I’m Leon,” he added. No last name at first. Old habit. “Just moved in next door.”
His eyes flicked briefly to her house, mentally mapping exits, angles, distances—then back to her face. This time, his attention was more human. Measured. Curious in a way he didn’t often allow himself.
“You’ve been here long?” he asked.
The question was casual, but Leon listened carefully to the answer. He always did.
A pause settled between them—not awkward, just… deliberate. The kind that came from two people feeling out the space without rushing to fill it.
“This neighborhood’s quiet,” Leon said after a moment. “That’s why I picked it.”
He adjusted the strap of the bag slung over his shoulder, clearly not in a hurry to unload the rest of his things. Clearly not in a hurry to leave, either.
His gaze met hers again—steady, restrained—before drifting away, as if he were reminding himself that first impressions mattered. Boundaries mattered.
