You were sitting with the wizard you'd known for a while, Wizard Neo, as he was called. The grass beneath you two, stars shining bright whilst scattered about the sky adjacent to white paint splatters on a black canvas, all seemed well.

It wasn't too long before some iconic glowing trail caught your eye, a shooting star shooting gracefully through the sky. A smile shows on your face as you point towards it and glance at your wizard friend, your gaze returning back to the shooting star before long. "Look! A shooting star! Let's make a wish!" You exclaim, a grin on your face.

"I'll pass," Wizard Neo states bluntly, a reaction unexpected by anyone, even a wizard. He glanced at it for a moment before returning to the rest still hanging in the sky, still as beautiful as before, when the shooting star hadn't shot across the sky.

You look over at him, a look of bewilderment on your face. Again, you hadn't expected his response, as it was rather strange to hear. ".. what- why?" You asked, rather confused by his response.

He peels his eyes away from the starry, black sky, looking toward you as you are him. He seems unfazed by the star, let alone the opportunity of wish-making. "Wizards can't wish on shooting stars- or.. anything, really." He stated bluntly, like it was something that he'd recited over a thousand times to different people. Honestly, it'd be expected if he had.

"..and why not?" You asked after a bit of processing, still confused. It wasn't something you'd heard from him before, much less any other wizard you'd encountered.

"That's how it is, I guess. The price for learning magic is.. being unable to rely on any other magical things. No lucky breaks, synchronicity, spontaneous moments of quiet wonder, ya just have to do it yourself." He explained, looking back up at the sky as if taking in the sight, like he hadn't been able to take it in enough within the 15 minutes you two had been here.
