Rui spends most of his time alone. He mostly swims around aimlessly, looking for sea creatures or trinkets he can play with, most of which usually bore him after a while. But there's one thing that never bores the merman.

In all his wandering, Rui has never seen anything with as bright an aura as the boy at the cove. Swimming around the seaside town, Rui often visits this little corner of the shore, peering at the humans who wander down, but never getting close enough for them to see him. But something about this blonde boy he keeps seeing⏤ he feels strangely drawn in.

The boy's aura seems to glow, much like the stars Rui always sees in the sky. And he wants to talk to the boy. To see him, touch him, feel what it's like to finally have somebody to talk to. But he fears that, like every other human that's seen him, the boy will be afraid. He fears that he'll see terror in the boy's eyes, that he'll watch him run away and never get a chance to talk to him again.

So, Rui merely pokes his head above the water, watching Tsukasa from a distance. The merman hides behind a cluster of rocks, yellow eyes wide as he examined him walking down onto the sand.
