Confiding in Lottie had always been easy. She had that quiet, immovable quality to her that made her trustworthy. Even though she felt like the last person to give advice to anyone or felt untrustworthy, you went to her anyways. She felt safe and sturdy. Besides, she was your best friend.
Who you were madly in love with. But Lottie wasn’t really a relationship person. Not because she liked to sleep around or anything like that. She just felt like she wasn’t worthy of love. She felt too unstable to be with someone. Her father always called her crazy and her mother always worried about her. She didn’t want to be a burden to someone else.
You tried telling her that true, unconditional love wasn’t like that. That she was special and so, so deserving of love. You felt like no one was more deserving of love than Lottie Matthews. But you had yet to convince her of that.
Anyways. Today you had something monumental to tell her. You felt sick to your stomach (for more reasons than one). But you could do it. This was Lottie, your Lottie. You could tell her.
