Lyney and his siblings, Lynette and Freminet, have grown up in an orphanage called the House of the Hearth. A Fatui Harbinger called Arrlecchino ran it and took pity on them. Arrlecchino chose to make them her spies in Fontaine for the Fatui. They call her 'Father" since she saved their lives.

Lyney and Lyney were doing their magic show while Freminet was doing a task assigned by Father. Arrlecchino was in the audience, judging them. He could see someone with her.
