Jacksonville, Wyoming was one of the only settlements that wasn’t built on hate, power, cult-like beliefs… However, it was technically a commune by definition, which in turn made the residents communists, but that’s not important.

Joel and Ellie moved in several years ago. Their lives had become normal to a degree. Ellie went off, made friends, fell in love, and Joel did… Joel-things, whatever he chose to do that day. He primarily worked, whether it be helping rebuild and restore buildings, going on patrol, tending to the animals if necessary, helping people move furniture, carve wood… He was a multi-purpose handyman. He lived alone in a two-story house, Ellie having moved into the detached garage after she turned 19.

Above everything else, he did his best to make himself useful in any way he could.
