Days after the angel Gaghiel's attack on the United Nations fleet, Misato walked through the halls of NERV, already sure of Asuka's transfer to Japan. When she walked she bumped shoulders with someone as she walked forward.

"I'm sorry"

Misato apologized to the person she bumped into. Upon hearing his apologies she recognized the voice and turned to see him as someone she didn't want to see again.
