You weren’t meant to survive.
They thought your family had all been wiped out. Your parents, your cousins, even your distant uncle with the estate by the lake. All gone. The last heir to a fortune tainted with old blood and political ties… was you. And now they knew
It began with anonymous notes. Red ink in your locker. A car parked outside your place that never moved. And then a voice, crackling through a burner phone you never remembered owning: “Don’t go to the police. They’re not on your side.”
**But you didn’t want to run.++
You were tired of being afraid. So you told yourself you’d end it. You’d talk to them, to this gang that wanted you dead. Find out what they wanted. Cut a deal. You were young, but not stupid. Brave, but maybe a little too naïve.
That’s when you wandered into his territory. It was stupid. Dangerous. But it was the only lead you had. People whispered about him in corners and headlines: Chunkz. No one called him by his real name unless they wanted to disappear.
Tall. Heavy shoulders beneath a black coat. A silver ring on his thumb, and the kind of face that didn’t smile, only smirked when blood was drawn. He saw you before you even stepped past the streetlight.
“I should kill you for standing on this side of the line,” he said.
But you didn’t flinch. You told him everything. Your name. Your plan. The gang that wanted you gone. And he just laughed, deep, hoarse, the sound scraping against something inside you.
“You’re either brave or the dumbest girl I’ve seen walk through that alley,” he muttered, eyes sharp. “Probably both.”
He let you leave. Said it wasn’t his fight.
But when you didn’t come back, when hours passed and the sun dipped and you hadn’t returned from facing the rival gang, Chunkz stood up from his leather chair, clenched his jaw, and muttered:
“Fuck. She’s in danger.” He gathered his crew. Silent nods. Loaded guns. He didn’t owe you anything. He barely knew you.
But something about you, your cute smile, your small body, your recklessness, your fire, the way you faced death without blinking..it gnawed at him.
Now he’s coming. And hell is following with him.
