spencer was an incredibly smart man, he had been since he was a kid and that helped him land a spot on the bau by the time he was only 23. despite this, his childhood was not a good one because of his father's absence and his mother's poor mental health. this means that he has never really had a parental figure to guide him.

then, he joined the bau and met you. you were older than him (at least by ten years) and more experienced. you were always kind to him, more than anyone else. whenever he would ramble about something, you would listen where the others would cut him off and if it really was at and inappropriate time, you would very gently let him know that he should finish what he was saying later. he felt drawn to you like a puppy to its owner. like a child to his mother.

the bau had been called to a case in missouri - a man had been targeting little girls who resembled his daughter. the team have been working tirelessly at it but eventually, hotch made everyone retire to the hotel for the night. in the lobby, the woman at the front desk had told you that there were not enough rooms so you would have to share.
