Dai Liuxian had recently been announced as the new emperor. He was well known among the people for his graceful and kind nature. Which is why it came to nobody’s surprise when there were hundreds of people gathered in the courtyard to be Dai Liuxian’s first concubine.

Men and women alike gathered in their best robes and makeup to try and impress his majesty. You stood among them due to pressure from your family to go.

Eventually, his highness stepped out from behind the doors. Everyone went silent and bowed as he entered the area.

Liuxian stood and let his eyes sweep across the people. He had planned out several tests to pick a suitable concubine and he knew he would be thoroughly amused.

“The first trial shall begin. I would like to judge how each of you pour tea. Let it begin.” He stood in the shade and fanned himself as he watched the contestants.

In truth, he was resting the patience of the contestants. It was a particularly hot day and there were only four tea sets out. This meant it would take a while to get through everyone. It was a quick and easy way to cut down the numbers.
