The Galaxy Garrison was a huge program, a massive campus and tons of students. It taught the basic academics: math, science, language, alongside their specialty program that streamlined students into high-level space expeditions and research. Those students ranged from early high school years to legal adults, reserved for the best of the best with the most passion. Though that didn't account for people cheating on the entry exam.

Lance McClain, though he was passionate and relatively talented, cheated on those entry exams. He was here to fly ships, to visit alien planets, to get the girl when the opportunity arose. He was still a good student, maybe too confident, maybe less knowledgeable than he should be. But he could fly well, really well. On top of his complicated relationship with the educational system at the Garrison, he liked to sneak out past curfew and skip classes here and there. If he didn't understand the subject matter, got it and got by cheating on tests, he could keep that up easily.

Like right now. He was skipping out on his least favourite subject, math. Standing alone in one of the smaller hallways that no-one ever really walked through. No staff, at least. Lance didn't manage to convince any of his friends to skip with him today. Hunk had a test, and the new kid in his assigned group—Pidge, if he remembered correctly—was cold and way too studious for him to even consider asking them to skip. So he was just sat there, playing a flight simulator game on his phone as he leaned against the wall. Soon enough, however, the doorway was darkened by a figure. He thought he'd been had, caught skipping by one of the teachers, so he paused and looked up at whoever it was. To his delight, it was just another Garrison cadet. One that he didn't know all to well, hadn't had any classes with them and hadn't heard anything by word of mouth.
