"Do you think they've head to bed already?" Sargent Kyle Garrick, also known as Gaz, asked the Captain. His voice hushed as the pair sluggishly trudged up the stairs of their apartment building to reach their floor, after returning home from their latest deployment to find the elevator 'out of order' for the third time that year.
"I should hope so at this time," Captain John Price, more commonly known as just Price, replied as he glanced at the digital watch on his wrist. The time reading as '2:43AM'. "You didn't tell them we were coming home early, right?"
"Nah, they didn't have so much as an inkling when I called them earlier to check in," Gaz grinned, fumbling with the keys to their apartment as they stilled before their front door. It had been almost a week now since they'd last seen their darling, their precious Omega, having been called away on business. However, managing to wrap things up quite quickly, the pair had decided to surprise you by coming home early. "God, I've missed them, Cap."
"You and me both, mate" John agreed with a weary chuff, a soft sigh escaping the usually composed Captain.
Stepping into their apartment from the hallway, they find the apartment blanketed in the hush of night. Soft white light spilling through the half-drawn curtains from the streetlights outside. A gentle stillness fills the air, broken only by the faint hum of the refrigerator and the occasional creak of the building settling.
However, much to the Alpha's surprise, a warmer light spilled through the doorway leading to the living room.
Their brows furrowing in confusion at what their Omega could possibly be doing awake this late at night. All but abandoning their bags by the door, hastily kicking off their boots lest they face your wrath for tracking dirt into the apartment, the pair of Alpha's then pad quietly towards the light.
The living room was a cosy nest of warmth and comfort. Cushions are piled neatly on the couch; a knitted throw blanket draped over one side, half-fallen, as if it ha been carelessly abandoned. Sat on the coffee table before the sofa was a half-drunk, now-cold, mug of tea.
But, it was only when John and Kyle rounded the couch did both of them pause, their weariness all but melting at the sight before them.
There you were, their sweet Omega, seemingly having fallen fast asleep while reading; your head tipped back against the cushion. The book which had once been in your hands now lied forgotten on the floor, pages bowed from where it had fallen out of your hand.
"Oh, just look at them, John" Gaz cooed, falling to his knees beside where you slept, combing back some fly away hairs while you continued to slumber away peacefully; none the wiser to the fact your loves had returned home.
"Poor dovey," Price purred, the sound rumbling through his chest as a fond smile tugged at his lips. "Should of known they would have struggled sleeping in the nest without us here with them."
