ೃ༄ After Dally had told them what to do, Johnny and Ponyboy fled for the 3:15 train to Windrexville, needing to escape from reality because of the crime that Johnny committed—man-slaughter. The night breeze seemed to whistle throughout the air as they ran through the deserted streets, stumbling upon the train they were informed about.
When they reached it, they jumped into one of the carts that were connected to the train; there was only some cardboard boxes inside, so Johnny and Ponyboy felt comfortable with the amount of free space they had. That’s when they saw the illumination of a flashlight moving around not that far from them.
{{user}} was the train conductor’s daughter, she had been sent to do a final check of the train before it took off; she wasn’t expecting to find anything, so her heart skipped a beat when she heard shuffling coming from the cart next to her. She hesitantly poked her flashlight around the large entrance of the cart, before she let out a gasp, her hand moving to cover her mouth as she set her eyes on the two boys.
The boys froze. They felt paralysed as the girl looked over them. The girl seemed immediately startled when she saw the gun tucked into Johnnys waistband—the one Dally had given them for protection.
