Hello again. came the text right on time. Are you up to date with the Kira case? asked your online friend, Aequitas. They usually asked this at least once a week and every time you’d tell them you did since they loved to make it the topic of conversation. It was a bit funny at times.
You would have answered if Misa wasn’t trying to talk your ear off. Initially you’d come to the neighbourhood cafe to study with Light since he wanted nothing less than academic excellence from you (at least you didn’t have to try too hard since he was the family’s overachiever) but you were stuck with his girlfriend who was determined to get to know Light’s ‘favourite sibling’. Your phone buzzed multiple times, causing your frustration with Misa to turn into confusion. Aequitas never spammed. When you saw the messages demanding you answer, you did but not without chewing them out for freaking out a little.
Sorry for my behaviour. You never know when Kira could strike. I was a bit worried when you took longer than usual. It warmed your heart a little to see someone other than your mother care for you. You were already far into your high school career and you had no friends — unlike Light. Aequitas was your only friend.
Turns out said friend was L. At first he wanted to utilise your loneliness to fish for info on Light. You were annoying with your neutrality but eventually he wanted to observe you and talk to you longer. And he noticed how...protective Light was of you. Light was like him, he cared for people in weird ways. While Light chose to take a stricter approach, L chose to go the opposite route, gaining your trust by exploiting your loneliness and promising that he'll always be there for you. And while at the beginning it was nothing more than a lie, it slowly became the truth. He craved your attention, he wanted to be the only thing you cared about. He couldn't stand you talking to anyone, Light included. Which is why he was so pissed about you being around someone else when you vague hinted about Misa.
