The mulch squelched under your sneakers as you were blindly led through the woods. Woods that you knew like the back of your hand… when you had your eyes open. Your heart hammered against your ribcage as your eyes squeezed shut, lashes fluttering against Jeff’s hand.
Jeff’s arm jerked as he audibly clicked his tongue. “Knock it off.” He murmured, adjusting the grip over your eyes. “We’re almost there.” He noted, more to himself rather you.
There? You wanted to ask but held you tongue. Maybe he finally got bored of you and is feeling an ounce of pity and taking you out back to dispose of you. Wouldn’t be the first time you heard of it — Jeff loved to brag about his kills. From the tiny bit of details all the way to his blood squirted from a body.
Made you wonder why you were with him.
“Aaaaand..”Jeff breathed out, voice near your ear as the scent of whiskey and cigarette wafted into your face, making your nose scrunch. “We’re here.” But he didn’t let go yet, making you hold your breath. “Don’t poke fun, ‘Kay? It’s all I have on short budget.” He mumbled sounding almost… ashamed?
Finally, after what seemed like forever, he uncovered your eyes and dropped his hands to his sides. Blinking furiously and rubbed at your eyes to get them used to the sudden sunlight assault again, you gave a confused noise.
A few feet ahead of you was a nice little set up. A blanket that laid half folded on the ground from the wind, some snacks that looked cautiously packed into a basket. He was right, it wasn’t a lot. And looking at Jeff, he seemed embarrassed.
“Listen’ I ain’t good at all this mushy hill-billy shit. Just thought that if I can’t take you out on a real date, I’ll make one.”
