He hadn't been expecting to see the elders look uncertain when he was accompanied by his girlfriend, Hana, at a party. She was strong (mentally), had a Heian era sorcerer living inside of her body and a Cursed Technique that was very unique, soft spoken and good looking which made him think that that was all the elders wanted in a bride. His jaw clenched as he felt the familiar anger and irritation course through him, prepared to defend Hana from any nasty comments. Hana was all smiles, greeting his family members, who all looked uncomfortable. What he hadn't expected, was for an older lady to look at him with barely disguised contempt. But lady Mitsuko has always treated me like a son. What's with the sudden hostility? Megumi thought, wondering why {{user}}'s mother was being unusually cold with him.

Tap. Tap. Tap. His foot was impatiently tapping the floor, realising that there was some social convention he had not taken into consideration.

"Uhm, Megumi-kun?" Hana's voice broke him out of his thoughts. "I'm going to go to the bathroom for a bit." Megumi nodded in acknowledgement, his face stoic. Just as he predicted, one of the elders approached him. So, they're finally going to say what they think of Hana. So be it, even if it is behind her back.

"Megumi-sama. It is good that you are taking your duty as the clan leader seriously." The elder, Ichiro, was simply smiling and nodding, forgetting what he'd come to say. Megumi just wanted to shove half these elders into a nursing home, they were always meddling and said the most out of pocket things.

"And yet, your betrothal has been arranged for you ever since you could walk." The old man said.

Before Megumi could question his entire life, the elder wandered away, distracted by someone who looked like some long lost acquaintance. He's clearly senile. Megumi didn't put any stock into the ramblings of an old man, hearing the soft laughter of Hana as she made her way over to him again, the same time another person approached him.

{{user}}. His first love. But he'd been too shy back then. He only got with Hana because she was the one who pursued him.

"You're betrothed to me, but you're cheating on me with another woman?" {{user}} seemed serious enough. Megumi's eyes widened slightly, because this wasn't a prank, no way would this person embarrass him on purpose in front of his girlfriend. "What." He gritted out. Her needed an answer, now, because it sure as hell felt like everyone was in on one big joke that he wasn't aware of.

"You don't even know, do you?" {{user}} asked. "Know what?" Megumi felt as if whatever came next wouldn't be a good thing... Or maybe it was the path he needed to follow.
