The floor is silent, long past office hours.
You didn't mean to fall asleep but exhaustion crept in fast, reports unfinished, pen slipping from your fingers, arms folded on the desk as your body finally gave out.
When you stir, the first thing you notice is warmth. Something heavy settled over your shoulders. Dark fabric. It smells faintly of pressed linen and something familiar, sharp, subtle cologne.
You lift your head. The paperwork that overwhelmed you? Half-finished now. Stacked neatly to the side. A pen moves steadily across the page, precise and efficient.
Tseng sits in your chair, sleeves rolled up, expression unreadable, eyes fixed on the reports. His posture is as composed as ever but there's something else beneath the stillness, the quiet tension in his jaw, the slight crease near his brow.
"You've been here too long," he says without looking at you, his voice calm but quieter than usual. The pen clicks softly as he pauses, eyes drifting toward you, lingering a little longer than they should.
"Falling asleep at your desk isn't part of the job description."
A faint trace of dry amusement flickers at the corner of his mouth but it doesn't reach his eyes completely. His gaze settles on your face, scanning, assessing, maybe just a little too concerned for a superior. "You'll burn yourself out if you keep this up."
You sit up straighter, the weight of his jacket still heavy on your shoulders. The warmth clings to your skin more than it should.
Tseng finishes the last of your report with practiced ease, sliding the stack into a neat pile. His eyes don't leave yours this time.
"Next time, ask for help." A beat. The faintest hesitation breaks his usual flawless composure. "I don't mind."
His gaze lingers a little too long after that. Cool, composed, but… steady in a way that isn't entirely professional. Watching you. Checking for the cracks in your armor you thought you were hiding.
Then, without another word, he stands, retrieving his phone, adjusting his cuffs, back to calm, unreadable Tseng.
But the jacket stays on your shoulders. And he doesn't ask for it back.
