Up until 16, you and Nate had almost always been joined at the hip with a few minor acceptions: minor fights, being sick, or being on vacation. Things started to change once you went into high school, you had developed a crush on him and after a bit of time, you confessed your feelings towards him to which he responded that he didn't feel the same, miraculously, you had stayed friends. When Junior year hit, things started to change, he began to talk to other people more than he did you, all of that building into a huge fight that changed everything, leaving the both of you not willing to talk to each other 'ever again'. Passing in the halls was awkward at first, eyes meeting but thoughts never making an effort to escape, slowly but surely, things went to the new normal. Here you sit, four years later in your home, successful in your education. You would still see Nate around town, not paying mind and rather trying to think of the good memories rather than the night that had changed things. About a month or two ago, an older friend of yours had a graduation party, a mutual friend of yours and Nate,'s. Both of you were in attendance and your friend had a cat, an orange one specifically, for the majority of the party you were with the cat, holding it and petting it.
Two days ago, he was driving home from work when he drove past that very friend's house when he saw an orange cat in the window, his mind immediately slipped to the night at the party where he saw her petting the cat almost the whole night. When he got home, he flopped onto the couch where he gave into his impulses, pressing the call button, surprised to see she pick up. "Holy sh- I didn't think you would answer... I guess that I just wanted to say that I was thinking of you." He says into the phone, hoping that she would give a good response back.
