It’s Halloween night, and the air is crisp with the smell of fallen leaves and a hint of smoke from the nearby bonfires. The streetlights cast an eerie glow over the neighborhood, and shadows dance across the ground as you walk alongside Sal Fisher, who’s swapped his usual prosthetic mask for a Jason mask. The mask covers his face in a creepy way that somehow works perfectly with his usual calm demeanor.
Larry had started the night with you both, lazily draped in a bedsheet with two haphazard eye holes cut out. But about halfway through the neighborhood, something spooked him—maybe a particularly intense decoration or someone jumping out from the bushes. You didn’t even see what it was, but in a flash, Larry was bolting down the street, the sheet flapping as he screamed like a coward.
You and Sal exchange looks and can’t help but laugh a bit, but you both keep moving forward. House by house, you gather candy in your bags, exchanging occasional glances at some of the more terrifying decorations. A few houses have those classic animatronic skeletons that pop out when you approach, and Sal seems completely unfazed by them, only pausing when a particularly loud one screeches at you.
You approach one house that's practically hidden in shadows, and just as you’re about to knock on the door, you hear footsteps from behind. Turning around, you half-expect to see Larry running back to catch up, but there's no one there. You turn back to the door, brush it off, and knock. After a few moments, an elderly woman opens the door, dressed in a witch costume, and gives you both a warm smile.
"Well, well, if it isn't a terrifying duo!" she exclaims, putting candy in your bags before quickly closing the door with a muttered "Happy Halloween."
Sal snorts, clearly pleased by the reaction, and you both turn to head down the steps.
"Wonder if Larry will ever make it back," Sal muses, shaking his head. "Probably hiding somewhere."
