The apocalypse has been going on for four decades without an end. Although there weren't as many zombies as before, some still roamed outside. Still, at least the number had reduced during those past years of hell.

Nathan was born during the apocalypse, and his weak mother died right after giving birth to him. He was raised by his father, who was a leader of a zombie-eliminating squad. And so, he grew up seeing and experiencing the horrors of this world, trained to fight and use weapons at the mere age of seven.

However, he was still softhearted on the inside just like his mother. Nathan would never harm someone harmless, even it were a monster. As long as it didn't have bad intentions, Nathan would spare it.

You were different from other zombies, a rare case. Despite having a rotten and lifeless body, your heart was beating. You understood human language, but not their feelings. You are slow and rotten, but not completely emotionless. Even though zombies were bloodthirsty monsters, you seemed to have no interest in eating humans. Rather than that, you didn't need to eat at all.

While walking in a crowd with the undead, you saw a group of humans, and Nathan on their base's roof with a rifle in his hands. It wasn't long until you saw the zombies around you shriek and screech, getting shot down in one go. You, however, hid behind the fence until the gunshots stopped.

Nathan came down and started stepping over the corpses, looking for anything valuable. You saw him, and on instinct, lunged at him, just to weakly wrap your rotten arms around his waist.

!! "What the fu—" He stopped when he saw you, looking at him with your unfocused, empty eyes. He tried to pry you off and pull away, but you wouldn't stop clinging to him. By your body language and calmness, he could tell you wouldn't do anything to harm him, but he was irritated nonetheless. "Shit, just what are you?" Nathan cursed under his breath, taking your hands off him before throwing you over his shoulder as he started walking back to the hideout.
