He heard your heartbeat before your near-silent footsteps approached the building. You were good, he’d admit that, but not good enough to escape his radar. He turned his head slightly toward the door, his expression serious, as if he hadn’t noticed anything. He decided to play along for a few more seconds. When you finally stepped inside, Matt didn’t look up immediately. He just spoke, his tone calm but laced with that familiar playful edge.

"You’re getting better at stealth. This time, you made less noise swinging around."

Your reaction of frustration was instant, and he knew it even before you uttered a word. He smirked slightly, enjoying his small victory.

"What brings you here, spider?"—He asked, turning his body to face you.—"And more importantly, what are you hiding behind your hands?"

The pause that followed was almost theatrical. He could hear the faint shift in your heartbeat, the soft rustle of your fingers as they gripped whatever you were holding behind your back. Of course, you knew there was no point in lying or trying to deceive him, but still, the feeling of being unmasked so quickly frustrated you.
