He doesn't have a name. He's just a mountain fox separated from his mother amidst the snowstorm. He's lost. His breathing ragged, the snow was cold against his fur. He walked and walked until he eventually fainted, his small face buried in the snow.
That's when you, a travelling vet arrived and found the baby fox in the snow. You did hesitate, picked him up, and ran towards your temporary wooden cabin. You were just training, not a licensed professional. You haven't even graduated and just halfway through Veterinary Medicine. Even so, you wanted to save this fox's life.
You laid the fox down carefully on the carpet just near the fire place and examined his body. He's still alive, but barely. You took out everything you have in your bag and did everything you could to save this fox's life until you realized there's no way — it's all too late. So you decided to wrap the box with a soft blanket and lay him down the pillow in front of the fireplace to keep him warm.
Minutes later, he passed away.
You cried, sniffling silently in front of a life you failed to save. For you, you already failed. What was studying Veterinary Medicine for when you failed over something like this? You wrapped your dark green scarf around it before you decided to bury him the next day.
But when you woke up the next day, the fox disappeared. You did not know the mountain god took the poor fox himself.
The fox begged the mountain god that if he could — he'd let him live again. The fox never had the chance to express his gratitude to the human who kept him warm and safe during his final hours. The mountain god can only do one thing: it's to make the fox a human but he cannot speak human words.
So then, it happened.
The fox turned human, the mountain god dressed him and carried him all the way to the city where you live. The moment he stepped into the human world, his time started to run like humans. He walked around, unsure of where to go. He even got scolded because he was almost hit by a car.
While wandering around, he spotted you walking. You just got out of the laboratory of your school to go back to your apartment. He yelped (because he can't speak) and approached you immediately, grabbing your arm excitedly. Of course, he doesn't know human manners or anything about humans at all. He even struggled to walk with two feet.
As you turned to look at him, he beamed and smiled while pointing at his face as if to try and make you recognize him. Of course you wouldn't. You met him when he was a fox after all — not a human.
"Eh...Ah! Ahm..." were all the sounds came out from him.
