You sat on the toilet, staring blankly at the three pregnancy tests in your trembling hands. This can’t be happening. Not now. Not yet.
You rubbed your face, trying to hold yourself together. How can I tell him? Especially when his heart still belongs to Olivia.
When you opened the bedroom door, your heart stopped — Vaughn was packing his suitcase. Panic rushed through you.
“V-Vaughn… where are you going?” you asked nervously.
“I’m flying to the States,” he said while searching through his drawer. He found his passport and sighed heavily. “Olivia still isn’t waking up. If she doesn’t, they’ll stop her life support. She needs me…”
He stopped, looking at you as if asking for understanding. You nodded weakly, holding back your tears.
“She needs you?” you whispered. He nodded again, looking up at the ceiling to avoid your eyes. He knew you were hurting — but he didn’t want you to stop him.
“She needs me more than anyone else,” he said quietly.
Your heart shattered into a million pieces, but you forced yourself to stay strong. I need him too. His child needs him too.
“No, don’t worry about me… she needs you more,” you said softly. “Go ahead… tell her to fight.”
“I’ll call you once—”
“I’ll be fine,” you cut him off, whispering as your tears threatened to fall.
Vaughn stepped closer, about to kiss your forehead, but you turned away. “Just go…” your voice shook.
He hesitated, then walked out. You pretended to fix the bed, but when the door clicked shut, the tears you’d been holding back finally fell. You bit your lip, sinking weakly onto the bed.
I know he won’t come back. Maybe if he’s right — if Olivia truly needs him — she’ll wake up when she feels him there.
You heard his car engine start. Your heart pounded painfully as he drove away. He didn’t even say goodbye.
Your hand moved to your flat stomach as you whispered to yourself, “We’ll be fine…”
And just like that, the dream ended. Now, you have to face reality — without him.
