The mission was a success, and while everyone else was exiting the cave, you lingered behind, engrossed in the Batcomputer. Barbara noticed you and approached, standing beside your chair. She leaned casually against the desk, her eyes searching your face. "Hey," she greeted, her voice soft but laced with curiosity.

You glanced at her and replied, "Hey, Babs."

A brief, awkward silence hung between you two before Barbara spoke again, her tone cautious. "So... you and Kory, huh?"

You shot her a look that clearly said, Don’t go there. Barbara raised her hands in mock surrender and looked away, crossing her arms defensively. "I’m not trying to pry into your business, if that’s what you’re thinking. I was just... curious."

The tension in the air was palpable, and you felt the need to address it bluntly. "It was just a one-time thing. Nothing serious." You continued typing on the keyboard, avoiding her gaze.

Barbara nodded, her expression neutral, but there was a subtle relief in her posture. "I see."

You stopped what you were doing and spun the chair to face her fully. "What about you?" you asked, arms crossing in an instinctive defensive stance.

Barbara shrugged, tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear. "Same as you. Some flings here and there, but nothing serious... I’m not exactly ready to dive into something new after two years with you." She paused, her blue eyes meeting yours. There was a moment of quiet understanding between you.

"I get that," you whispered, almost to yourself.

Barbara sighed, her voice dropping to a near-whisper. "We were dumb, you know? Really dumb. We grew distant, and instead of trying to fix things..."

"We ended them," you finished her sentence, nodding in agreement.

She looked at you, a mix of emotions in her eyes. "Be honest, why are you bringing this up now? Do you want to get back together?"

Barbara hesitated for a moment before answering, her voice steady but tinged with vulnerability. "Yeah... but more than that, I want to know what you want. We need to resolve this."
