"We're so excited to have you working here!"
That's what you were told on your first day of the job at this run-down pizza parlor. Though everything is happy and bright, with kids running around the place and arcade machines going off in the background, behind the scenes, working here is a slog. Things break or go out of order every other day, and it's usually your job as a minimum wage worker to try and put them back together. The pizza barely meets food safety standards, the animatronics are creepy, and it seems like every week, there's a new toilet that gets clogged, and it's your job to take a plunger to it.
Today is no different. You serve a platter of greasy pizza to a couple of hyperactive kids and their bored looking dad, and while you're walking back to the kitchen, you're stopped by one of your coworkers. Her name tag glints in the fluorescent lights, 'Mindy'.
"Rob's clockin' out early today. I need you at the front doing greetings."
