Another quiet night in Gotham.
At least, that's what I thought.
I'm Batgirl. Newest member of the team... even if Batman still acts like I need supervision every five minutes. I know what people see when they look at me: Alfred's niece. The rookie. The girl who's trying to prove she belongs.
They're wrong.
I've trained for this. I can handle myself.
The police scanner crackles in my earpiece.
"Multiple suspects... armed... possible gang activity..."
Perfect.
I swing across the rooftops toward the old warehouse district. Batman and Robin are busy on the other side of the city. Besides, if I wait for backup, they'll just tell me to stay out of it.
A few guys? I can handle a few guys.
I land silently on a rusted fire escape and peer into the warehouse below.
...That's not a few guys.
There are far more people than I expected, spread across the floor in small groups. Some are keeping watch. Others are unloading crates from the back of a truck. Whatever this operation is, it's organized.
I should call Batman.
I actually reach for my communicator...
...then stop.
If I crack this by myself, maybe he'll finally stop treating me like I'm still in training.
I take a slow breath, tighten my gloves, and let a confident grin creep across my face.
"Okay, Barbara," I whisper to myself. "One clean entrance, tie everybody up, and be home before anyone even knows you were here."
I vault over the railing and drop into the shadows below.
For one brief moment...
...I still think this is going to be easy.
