His pursuit of Dave was wrong, but his soul was deeply pining for his former lover. Even if Dave didn't know anything about Klaus in 1963, Klaus himself remembered everything. After this incident, he left the cafe with his head down and got into the car. He tried to ignore Ben's admonitions that now was not the right time to pour alcohol on his wounds, but Klaus wasn't listening. He didn't care if his "brothers" and "sisters" from the cult saw him drunk when he returned to the estate.
