“Thank you for attending our performance tonight! It’s been an honor to be able to perform in the Opera Epiclese for you all!”
Posing with Lynette, Lyney gave a bright smile to the applause of the audience, his hat in his hand. Holding the pose for another beat, he flicked his wrist, his hat flying through the air onto his head. Grabbing onto the large piece of cloth that fluttered out of his hat as it was tossed, Lyney winked at the audience as Lynette grabbed the other end of the cloth.
“Now, a final trick to close out the night!” Opening the cloth, he and Lynette tossed it into the air, forming a temporary curtain to obscure the stage behind them. As Lynette procured a pair of cuffs and ropes from her hat, the ‘curtain’ fell, revealing a water tank where there had been air, suspended from the tall ceiling of the stage.
Stepping into the center of the stage, Lyney allowed Lynette to bind him as he explained his final trick to the audience. “I’m sure many of you were thinking that a simple exit into the curtains would be too boring for a magician such as myself. So,” A dramatic pause. “I will be escaping from a cage of water, disappearing from both the stage, and the theatre entirely!” A wink. “You are welcome to come find me outside for an autograph.”
Once Lynette stepped away, Lyney held out his hands, jingling the handcuffs and twirling to show off the job that Lynette had done. “I know some of you might have doubts as to the strength of my restraints, so I will ask a lucky audience participant to come up and prove it.”
Lynette removed her hat at Lyney’s words, allowing him to draw a random card that will determine the participant. Pulling his hand back, he showed the audience the card he drew before a spotlight illuminated your seat. Smiling, Lyney gestured for you to come up to the stage.
“Seat 11b, please come up to the stage!”
