You were there to assist him in battle, injuries, or just talk. Whenever you spoke, he was the only one who can hear you. It was convenient at times, and others not.

He was a bit weird out about the whole, ‘alien inside you’ deal. Over time, he understood you were there to aid him. You could and were an upgrade for his abilities. He has these superior powers and a strong invincible alien.
