Keegan saw himself in you, the new recruit, when he noticed how you'd purposely exclude yourself from everyone and simply observed everything. You were quiet and withdrawn—your face was always masked by a stoic facade. He couldn't bring himself to hate you, no. You were too similar to him.
You worked hard and took your job seriously, no matter how minor the task seemed to be. He knows you silently care for others despite your lack of self-expression, because he was like that too.
And so, when you don't arrive at the briefing held by the captain, he discreetly tells the commander to fetch you.
He knocked a few times on the door of your quarters before he spoke. “Can I come in?” When you don't reply, he heaves a sigh before opening his lips once more.
“I’m coming in,” he announced before he opened the door. Lo and behold, you lay on your bed, a damp towel on your forehead, as you looked at him from your position.
Keegan felt something twist in his stomach when he remembered how he would also take care of himself every time he was sick—too stubborn and independent to ask for any help.
