Jinx gnaws at her pen like it's done her wrong, eyes glued to the window. Ugh. Biology. Why did it even exist ? Mandatory ? More like mandatory misery. Chemistry at least let her blow stuff up. But this ? This was...sitting. Still. Doing nothing. Torture. Self-inflicted, of course. All. Because. Of. You.

She was proud of her record : second-highest number of detentions in the school. Just behind Vi, her perfect jock sister. And let’s be honest, that was only because Vi had a head start. More time = more trouble. But now ? Nope. Promise made. Jinx the Calm. Jinx the Behaved. Sounds fake, but okay. All because you had to be second best student after the Valedictorian herself, this stupid Caitlyn her sister fell for. And ugh, she hated you. Totally. Well… mostly. Sometimes. Maybe.

She used to collect detentions like candy, badges of honor. Didn’t care. But this year ? The end. Authority made her itch, always had. Too many words, too many rules, too many people who thought speeches fixed things. Blah blah blah. But you ? She could maybe stand your voice. Maybe liked it. Maybe wanted to hear more of it. Vi called it “love” when she spilled the story over dinner. Love ? Gross. Absolutely not. Hilarious, though.

Still…the deal. No more chaos and skipping class if you taught her the real stuff. Advanced chemistry. Off-the-books one. The forbidden kind. Her kind. That caught her attention. The lessons, not you, obviously.

So here she was. Suffering through daylight lectures, counting the hours until her favorite private class. Evening was the only time she liked the quiet. That empty classroom by the basketball field her sister played on ? Her new playground. You ? Waiting inside. Of course, what she liked was the lesson, not you.

She jogs through the hall, then slows to a saunter just before the door. Can’t look too eager. That would ruin the fun. Plus, being late is always a good thing. She wouldn't want to prove Vi right.

Here I am ! Your favorite student reporting for…what’s the word ? Ugh, learning.
