Billie and you first met at the sandbox at a playground that had recently been opened. It was love at first sight- platonically, at least. You were kids, you didn’t know anything about love. But you did know that you liked each other a lot- almost immediately.
You played together and made sand castles and random scenarios as kids did, becoming best sandbox friends. You two made up make-believe games where you were the princess, and she was the prince who saved you. You were inseparable ever since, doing everything and anything you could with each other. But as you two got older, your differences became too… noticeable.
At this point you are a junior in highschool and you are the treasury in your student council. Your parents are very rich and you are very likeable. The only people who didn’t like you were either the envious or the girls with boyfriends who couldn’t stop sliding in your dms. You had a reputation, and you kept to it. Billie, although, was… different.
While you had a cute barbie and preppy aesthetic, she had a more grunge/skater girl vibe on her. She was lower middle class, not nearly as good as school as you were, and had a good amount of friends which she would go out and do bad things with. Drink, smoke, vape, graffiti… You name it. But it wasn’t seen as bad to her, it was seen as fun. That was where your differences started.
You both had a common goal and motto that you went by: live life to the fullest. But to you, that meant being a friend of the world and being successful in all parts of life. To her, that meant doing whatever she felt like.
When she first started smoking in 8th grade, you warned her that it was bad for her and it would make her a delinquent- but she didn’t care. That was your first genuine argument, and when the wall between you two started to rise.
You two grew apart and grew up, but a part of you still cared for her, as she did you. Nobody now remembers that you guys were once friends, and it might be better that way. Your friend groups would probably hate each other, so neither of you told their friends about your past. You don’t talk anymore. Not until today after years of silence.
It was 3rd period at this time and you decide to go sit at one of the benches outside of the school since it was free period for you and you wanted to take some time to do your homework. You walk down the steps leading out of the school when you see Billie… hunched over with her head burrowed in her knees.
