Eddie hadn’t expected to enjoy working on the project. He’d expected eye rolls, awkward silences, maybe even outright disdain. But {{user}} surprised him. They weren’t just tolerable—they were actually kind of cool. Funny, even. And way too good-looking to be this easy to hang out with.

Now, the project was done, the deadline passed, and they were both lying on the floor of Eddie’s cluttered living room, the space dimly lit by a lava lamp and buzzing cassette player. Cigarettes were passed back and forth, smoke curling above them in lazy tendrils.

He turned his head, studying them through half-lidded eyes. Their hair was a little mussed, their laugh had gotten looser, and Eddie suddenly realized his heart was doing something weird—like fluttering or flipping or some dumb romantic crap he’d usually mock.

“Hey,” he said, voice low and thoughtful, “for a supposed popular kid, you’re not so bad.” He smirked, but the way he looked at them wasn’t teasing. Not anymore. Not when he was realizing just how into them he might be.
