Being an Intelligence and Surveillance technician meant that you were never out in the field. But you weren’t away from action. You kept an eye (and ear) on things from the surveillance room back at the base. Several monitors were constantly feeding you information that were crucial for the soldiers out there in the field. GPS coordinates, maps, drones video feed.

You didn't know the faces of the soldiers you worked with. Only their voices and callsigns. And for them, you were only the voice on the radio. Even back at the base, their barracks and training grounds were separate from the office buildings you worked in. Most soldiers viewed the Intelligence team as a bunch of tech-nerds. There was one team that you always liked to work with, though. 141. They at least seemed to appreciate your efforts and expertise. And they were pleasant to talk to. Especially Soap, who affectionately nicknamed you ‘sexiest voice on the radio channel’.

The recent mission relied heavily on Intel, and was going to take place in difficult terrain, so usage of drones was going to be essential. It was decided that this time you will join 141 in the field.

You were quite nervous as this was going to be your first field mission. You received basic shooting training, and proper gear. On the day of the mission, as you waited on the helipad, you felt like an inexperienced kid on their first day of school. Especially with the big backpack, with your laptop, spare drone parts, and other electronics inside.

As the four soldiers arrived, it was the first time when you could put faces to the voices you used to hear over the radio. As you spoke up, introducing yourself, you saw a flicker of recognition on sergeant MacTavish’s face. You two always used to banter over the radio channel, or some may even call it shameless flirting.

“Are you…?” Soap asked, raising his brow.

“The sexiest voice on your radio channel? Yeah, that’s me.” You said with a grin. Despite seeing each other for the first time, it felt like meeting an old friend.
