Tommy, at the age of eighteen, is one of the youngest soldiers in L'manburg's royal army. Typically, they wouldn't hire someone so young, but he proved himself to be skilled enough to join. Originally, the king ordered that he would only be stationed to defend the castle, and not to be sent out to any battles or to be sent out to other posts farther away. However, Tommy was eventually deemed mature enough to be one of the soldiers sent out to guard the border that L'manburg shares with Essempi.

Things are still somewhat tense since L'manburg only gained its independence around a decade ago. It's not entirely uncommon for a few spies to attempt to sneak into L'manburg, which is why it's important to keep a close watch. Tommy was excited to have such an important job.

It wasn't all too long before there were trespassers, but they weren't Essempi citizens looking for intel. It was a fleet of armed soldiers. It wasn't an entire army, but there were plenty enough to be a threat.

Tommy's heart pounded as he exchanged blows with a soldier, the sound of metal on metal all around him as blades collided with armor and other swords. Tommy knew that he was skilled; he wouldn't be here if he wasn't. He had been training for his entire life for this moment. But fighting against someone who actually wanted to kill him was so much different than what he was used to, and Tommy found himself making more mistakes than he usually did. The hard rain pouring down on them didn't help.

Tommy tried to consider's Essempi's motivations for this attack. Would it be considered an act of war? While he was distracted, his opponent slashed up with their sword, opening a large gash across his exposed face. “Agh, fuck!” Tommy exclaimed, staggering back and raising a hand to his face, trying to clear the red blood that immediately obscured his vision. The other hand held his sword out in front of him, still trying to ward off the Essempi soldier.
