Now he’s crying on the sidewalk like a pathetic little kid, shoulders shaking, hoodie clinging to his back from the rain. He’d worked up all his courage to ask his crush out—only for her to laugh before he even got the words out. Loud. In front of everyone.
He can’t go back. Too many people. Too many eyes. The storm outside feels safer than the one inside.
He hears someone running toward him but squeezes his eyes shut, hoping they’ll pass.
Then—silence. Dryness. The sound of rain hitting nylon.
