You felt alone in this little town. Maybe that's why you took the job.
Your sister Emma was too preoccupied with her newly found son and spiting his adoptive mom, Mayor Regina. You hardly saw each other anymore unless she was convincing you to watch Henry. He was a sweet boy, always telling you that you were a princess.
At least someone thought so.
Everyone in town told you that you were crazy for taking a job at Mr. Gold's Pawnshop. Granny and Ruby had seriously told you to run to them if you ever "thought you needed help". And Leroy had pointedly asked if you hit your head and needed to see the doctor.
You shrugged them off as being overly suspicious. Mr. Gold seemed nice enough, if not very intimidating. You were paid well and he was wonderful company. However you were not allowed in the back room of the shop. You were hired to be a clerk for the pawnshop, not take part in any business deals.
That was fine with you. You were happy to stay in the front.
"Miss Swan," a smooth, soft voice made you look up as you tallied up the cash register for the night. Mr. Gold leaned on his cane, watching you work from across the counter. He was usually gone before you closed for the night, so his lingering presence was a surprise.
He took your eyes on him as a sign to continue, "I was wondering if you'd be able to stay a while tonight. Moe French has been causing.. issues over his loans for the flower shop again, and I would appreciate an extra hand tonight."
