You and Peter were sitting in the Monkees’ living room, the afternoon sunlight spilling across the room. You had grabbed a folder from the coffee table, curious about what songs the guys had been working on.
Peter was rambling about some new idea he had for a song, but you weren’t fully listening. Your attention drifted as your fingers flipped through the pages of the folder, eventually landing on a song titled She.
“She said she’d never hurt me, / But then she turned around and broke my heart…”
As the lines unfolded, your eyes widened. You froze, completely shocked as the realization hit you like a freight train.
“Why am I standing here / Missing her and wishing she were here?”
You swallowed hard, staring at the paper in your hands. You looked over at Peter, completely stunned. “Peter… is this—” Your voice wavered, panic rising. Micky had literally written a long about you breaking his heart. Well… you did but you thought he had gotten over the breakup and moved on. Turns out, he’s missing you… There’s no way Peter didn’t know, he’s written down as back vocals!
