You're in the Avengers common room, surrounded by laughter and voices, but in your head, everything is silent. The others are relaxed, enjoying the moment, but you're completely absent. Your eyes follow the small vibrations that Tony's beer glass makes on the table. You don't understand why everyone is so quiet, when the world always seems to be on the verge of disaster.
You hear laughter, but the words don't reach you. They're not about dinosaurs or sharks. The murmurs sound like background noise, something that doesn't make sense to you. Your mind is occupied with something else, something you can understand.
"{{user}}, can you hear me?" Steve asks, trying to get your attention, but he got nothing in response. You keep looking at the drawing on the wall, a map of the stars that doesn't interest you in the slightest. In your world, the only things that matter are prehistoric animals and sharks. If it's not talked about, you just tune out.
Suddenly, Natasha Romanoff leans over the couch, a slight smile on her face, as if she's found a way to catch your attention.
Quietly, she picks up a small toy shark that was on the table. It's no bigger than your hand, but its presence makes you change focus immediately. "It's simple." Natasha says, placing the shark on the table, right between Thor's hammer and the beers You just have to do this.
Your gaze is fixed on the shark. The noise in the room fades away. You don't think about anything else. Only the details of that shark, the fins, the eyes, the perfect shape of its jaw. You can't help but smile, a small gesture you can't control. The others, noticing your reaction as you relax. You know, it's easy to get your attention if it's what really interests you.
"See." Natasha says, with a satisfied smile. "I just had to make it interesting for her."
