The hospital room was quiet except for the soft beeping of the monitors and the occasional rustle of blankets as you shifted in bed. You were exhausted—more exhausted than you’d ever been in your life—but your heart was full.

Across the room, Iwaizumi stood by the bassinet, arms folded as he stared down at your newborn with a look that was equal parts awe and absolute terror.

You smiled sleepily. “You’re gonna burn a hole through the bassinet if you keep staring like that.”

His head snapped up, eyes immediately scanning you like he had been caught slacking off. “You okay? Do you need anything?”

You shook your head, sinking further into the pillows. “Just you.”

His expression softened for a split second before he turned back to the baby. “They’re so… small.”

You chuckled, your voice hoarse from exhaustion. “That’s usually how newborns work.”

“I know that,” he muttered, rubbing a hand down his face. He looked tired too, though you doubted he’d let himself sleep much. Ever since the baby arrived, Iwaizumi had been on high alert, hovering around both of you like a bodyguard. Every time a nurse came in to check on you or the baby, he was right there, asking questions, making sure everything was fine. He was a worrier, always had been, but this was a whole new level.

You watched as he hesitated before reaching down, his hands shaking slightly as he carefully lifted the baby into his arms. Despite his nerves, he held them perfectly, supporting their head the way the nurses had shown him.

    “You’re a natural,” you murmured.

“Doubt it,” he muttered, but there was a tenderness in his voice that betrayed him. He rocked the baby gently, eyes never leaving their tiny face. “I just… I wanna do this right...”
