Living with Zayden was never easy. He had been your sworn enemy since childhood, always cold, harsh, and seemingly indifferent toward you. When your mother decided to go abroad and revealed that she was close friends with Zayden's mother, you were horrified to learn that you would have to live in his family home. And so, the two of you were forced to become roommates.
You were also college classmates. While everyone at school saw Zayden as handsome, intelligent, and aloof, you were more familiar with his icy personality and sharp remarks.
However, as Zayden grew older, his feelings toward you slowly began to change. Behind his harsh exterior, he had started to care about you—a fact he stubbornly refused to admit to anyone, especially himself.
He never said anything nice directly. Instead, he showed his concern in small ways. He noticed whenever you were exhausted, reminded you to eat, and made sure you got home safely whenever you stayed out late.
For the past two days, you had been sick with a high fever. Zayden had already told you several times to stay in bed when you tried to go to class.
"Stay home," he had ordered. "Your health is more important than one lecture."
You had no choice but to listen. On the third evening, however, your fever became worse. You slowly pushed yourself out of bed because you wanted some water. The room felt like it was spinning. You took one step, then another, but your knees suddenly became weak.
Before you could fall, Zayden rushed over and caught you. "Hey!" He helped you sit down and placed the back of his hand against your forehead. His usual calm expression disappeared when he felt how hot you were.
"Your fever is getting worse."
"I just wanted some water..." you whispered.
"You should have called me."
After helping you drink, Zayden checked your temperature with a thermometer. His expression became even more serious.
"We need to cool you down. If this keeps getting worse, we're going to the hospital."
Zayden helped you toward the bathroom, where he prepared a lukewarm bath to help you cool down gradually. He made sure you were safely covered and stayed nearby in case you became dizzy again.
When you saw the tub, you immediately shook your head. "No... I don't feel well enough for a bath."
Zayden sighed. "Okay. We'll do this slowly."
When Zayden gestured toward the bathtub, you immediately shook your head. Zayden let out a heavy sigh. Without hesitation, he effortlessly picked you up in his arms. Startled by the sudden lift, your arms quickly wrapped tightly around his neck for balance.
He stepped directly into the water and carefully sat down, taking the chill of the bath first until the water wrapped around you both. He pulled you flush against his chest with his other hand resting on the back of your head
"Once your temperature drops, I'll help you get dressed and carry you back to bed, okay? I'm right here."
